Nór Thomas Ulsrud prehral boj s ťažkou chorobou

Curlingový svet smúti za džentlmenským šampiónom

Svetový curling prišiel o jednu z najväčších osobností, keď po dlhej chorobe zomrel Thomas Ulsrud. Iba 50-ročný Nór bol trojnásobným olympionikom, v roku 2010 získal vo Vancouveri striebornú medailu.

Ulsrud sa v Pekingu 2014 stal majstrom sveta, o rok neskôr v kanadskom Halifaxe vybojoval striebro. Počas 12 účastí na MS (od roku 1998 do 2016) Ulsrud získal aj tri bronzové medaily (2006, 2008 a 2009). Počas kariéry sa dvakrát stal majstrom Európy (2010, 2011).

Ulsrud sa stal víťazom ceny Collie Campbell Memorial Award v roku 2011. Cena sa každoročne udeľuje na majstrovstvách sveta hráčovi, ktorého vybrali jeho súperi a ktorý „najlepšie ilustruje tradičné curlingové hodnoty džentlemanských zručností, fair play a športového ducha.“

Two world championships, one Aitken family

While she is not new to the world of elite sport, this is the first time it is a family event for her.

Here’s a reminder of the qualification format: From the record 48-teams competing at this championship, only 16 teams will progress to the play-offs. The teams in first and second place in the six groups after the round-robin will qualify.
