Nór Thomas Ulsrud prehral boj s ťažkou chorobou

Curlingový svet smúti za džentlmenským šampiónom

Svetový curling prišiel o jednu z najväčších osobností, keď po dlhej chorobe zomrel Thomas Ulsrud. Iba 50-ročný Nór bol trojnásobným olympionikom, v roku 2010 získal vo Vancouveri striebornú medailu. 

Ulsrud sa v Pekingu 2014 stal majstrom sveta, o rok neskôr v kanadskom Halifaxe vybojoval striebro. Počas 12 účastí na MS (od roku 1998 do 2016) Ulsrud získal aj tri bronzové medaily (2006, 2008 a 2009). Počas kariéry sa dvakrát stal majstrom Európy (2010, 2011).

Ulsrud sa stal víťazom ceny Collie Campbell Memorial Award v roku 2011. Cena sa každoročne udeľuje na majstrovstvách sveta hráčovi, ktorého vybrali jeho súperi a ktorý „najlepšie ilustruje tradičné curlingové hodnoty džentlemanských zručností, fair play a športového ducha.“

China, Japan and Switzerland claim remaining LGT World Women's play-off places

After Friday afternoon's second-last round-robin session of the LGT World Women's Curling Championship 2019 in Silkeborg, Denmark, all six qualifiers for the weekend play-off games have been determined. Before this session, table-topping Sweden, Korea and Russia had already qualified. With a 5-4 win over United States, Switzerland joined them.

Friday is the last day of round-robin action at the LGT World Women's Curling Championship 2019 in Silkeborg, Denmark. Korea came on to face Latvia in the morning's eighteenth session, knowing that a victory would guarantee them a place in the weekend's play-off games.

Table-toppers Sweden have already qualified and only the top six teams go onto the play-off stage.
