Novými šampiónmi sa stali Škóti

Novými majstrami sveta sa v Ottawe stali hráči Škótska, ktorí vo finále zdolali domácu Kanadu 9:3. O výsledku sa rozhodlo prakticky už v treťom ende, keď za stavu 0:2 skip Brad Gushue daroval súperom dlhším kameňom na draw dvojku. Škóti sa tak z titulu tešia po dlhých 15 rokoch. Víťazného skipa Brucea Mouata si pamätajú aj slovenskí hráči, keď pred piatimi rokmi so spoluhráčkou Ginou Aitken triumfoval v Bratislave na Slovakia mixed doubles. Bronz získalo Švajčiarsko po víťazstve nad Talianskom 11:3.

New Zealand men made curling history by qualifying for the World Junior Championships for the first time, but Matt Neilson's team went on to write a further chapter in the story. In the championship's opening session on Saturday evening they defeated Italy for a first-ever win at this level in the Queens Place Emera Centre, Liverpool, Nova Scotia, in Canada.

Great Britain win gold at European Youth Olympic Festival

After rolling through the round-robin stage undefeated at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Great Britain won gold in the final against previously undefeated Switzerland, 6-2. The European Youth Olympic Festival began on Monday (11 February) and wrapped up on Friday (15 February).
